About Interschool Challenge
The Interschool Challenge is a program of Tenpin Bowling Association of Queensland Inc. introducing the concept of a uniformly structured tenpin bowling competition to school teachers, students and parents.
Interschool Challenge is a partnership between TBAQ (the sport providers), The Bowling Centre (the sport facility) and Education Queensland (learning providers for children).
This partnership is developed to achieve the following outcomes:
- Enhance the image of tenpin bowling as a sport.
- Increase participation in the sport.
- Place tenpin bowling on the same acknowledgement and opportunity base as other major sports
- Provide a pathway to recruit and retain junior participants instead of relying on league promotion and tournaments as the only recruitment tools.
The Interschool Challenge is a program which achieves these outcomes. Tenpin Bowling suffers from a recreational image within the secondary school environment and thus junior bowlers are not acknowledged for their achievements in the sport. This program opens up the opportunity for junior bowlers to succeed in conjunction with school representation.
Through the adoption of the Interschool Challenge the sport and bowling centres are offering an opportunity to local schools and local junior bowlers to participate in a unique team based format.
The Tenpin Bowling Interschool Challenge concept was devised in 2000 to introduce the sport of Tenpin Bowling as an Interschool Sporting event within the Primary and Secondary environment. Interschool Challenge is an extension and a viable opportunity to current school participation – Roll n Strike in School program and In Centre field trips.
This competition allows current and new participants of Tenpin bowling to compete in a structure statewide competition and represent their school in their chosen sport.
Goals of Interschool Challenge:
- Have a Statewide event attracting schools to compete against one another for the honour of being the leading school in the sport of tenpin bowling
- Enhance the image of the sport in the school system by servicing school competitions
- Offer opportunities for school students to represent their schools in their chosen sport
- Create a closer link between Bowling Centres and TBAQ in providing structured opportunities for schools to access.
