What is Roll 'n Strike? Roll 'n Strike is a Junior sport development program
delivered to primary schools throughout Queensland.
The program introduces the sport of Tenpin Bowling to children of all primary ages, via structured lesson
plans, and a comprehensive but easy to follow curriculum based Teacher Instructors manual. Our Sport Development
staff train teachers in the program, and conduct lessons with the children to demonstrate the program to teachers
prior to implementation.
Benefits To The School Include: Professional development of teachers trained by TBAQ development
staff to deliver the Roll 'n Strike program within their school environment.
FREE resources (sponsored by local bowling centres) provided to the schools, which remain at your school
for an allocated period.
Resources provided can cater for up to 30 children at one time during a class.
Instructors Manual provided as a permanent resource for the school, incorporating structured lesson plans
to ensure students stay on task and develop a variety of skills.
Teachers Guide linking the Roll 'n Strike Bowling program to the HPE syllabus.
The Roll 'n Strike program can be used by all Grade levels from Year 1 to Year 7.
The program provides the opportunity for non-athletic children to develop knowledge, and the relevant sporting
skills to enjoy and succeed in the sport of tenpin bowling.
Extension opportunities are available for schools once completion of the Roll 'n Strike program has taken place.
These include Special Roll 'n Strike Game vouchers - allowing transfer of skills attained in the Roll 'n Strike
program to be tried in the sporting venue (used as an incentive).
Achievement Certificates - to rewards students who successfully complete the Roll 'n Strike program.
(Also used as an incentive).
Field Trips - organised class trips to a bowling centre to learn more about tenpin bowling and to develop
the skills children have attained by participating at the actual sport venue. Field trips are overseen by
quality assured accredited coaches.
Curriculum Advantages Of Roll 'n Strike
The Roll 'n Strike program links the first 4 levels of Core Learning Outcomes.
No gender issues are involved in tenpin bowling. Males and females learn on a level playing field.
The sport is based on technique not power. One of the leading Australian role modelsl for the sport is a female -
Cara Honeychurch.
Health and safety issues are taken into account - risk preventive procedures are detailed in a Teacher Instructors
Manual.
Roll 'n Strike is encouraged to be under shelter to complement Tenpin Bowling as an indoor and sun safe
sport.
TBAQ are constantly updating the Instructors Manual and can provide ideas for teachers who have talented students wishing
to progress and learn more. TBAQ recognise the need to provide activities that will further develop these students.
