LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION! Prestigious TBAQ Sport Awards event attracts record audience.

Blackbox Theatre in Logan City’s Kingston Butter Factory Cultural Precinct was buzzing with anticipation on Sunday for the gala TBAQ Sport Awards and Hall of Fame induction ceremony.

A capacity live audience and record number of viewers watched the evening’s proceedings via live-stream nationally as the outstanding achievements of individual bowlers, teams and officials throughout 2023 and 2024 were recognised. Award categories included male and female high achievers in Junior, Youth, Adult and Senior divisions and Athletes with a Disability. The significant contribution of TBAQ’s committees and volunteers was also acknowledged and applauded.

Olympian guest speaker Glynis Nunn OAM OLY gave an entertaining and inspiring insight into her own career journey as an elite sportswoman, and a glimpse of the sporting programs available for athlete development at the Gold Coast Academy of Sport. The keynote address by TBAQ CEO, Gail Torrens included an overview of the sport’s highlights in Queensland in 2023-2024 and its goals and exciting prospects for expansion in 2025 and beyond.

Together with Gail Torrens, Councillor Teresa Lane – representing the Awards event supporter CITY OF LOGAN – led several dignitaries from the sport and tenpin bowling industry in presenting plaques and medallions in numerous award categories. A full list of Award winners cis listed below.

Congratulatory messages from Queensland Minister for Sport, the Honourable Tim Mander MP and City of Logan Mayor, Jon Raven set the scene for a packed program of Award presentations, culminating in two inductions into TBAQ’s prestigious HALL OF FAME. North Queensland’s JOHN CARR and Moreton Bay’s DON LINDSAY were posthumously honoured for outstanding dedication and personal contribution to the sport and its athletes throughout their lifetimes.

“The Board and management of TBAQ are delighted to induct two such worthy gentlemen into our Hall of Fame, signifying the sport’s appreciation of their tireless efforts to their families and the Queensland bowling community alike” said TBAQ CEO and fellow Hall of Famer, Gail Torrens.

“I’m also very grateful for the teamwork between TBAQ’s hardworking staff and time-generous volunteers for their unstinting work assisting in producing such an enjoyable and successful Awards and Hall of Fame event this year. “For any who may have missed the livestream, they can log on to the TBAQ website (here) and enjoy the experience of being involved in the excitement of the event,” she added.

Please note the award ceremony starts at 14 mins into the online video.
